09 July 20 Rotua to Tauranga

Okere Falls

The morning started with a cool wake up with the temperature being close to +1 C. Fortunately our central heating kept us nice and warm inside the van! We werre unable to book a last minute tour in Rotorua in the morning, so we headed north towards Mount Maunganui. A stop at Okere Falls woke us up nicely with a brisk walk through native forest to see two different waterfalls on the Kaituna River.

Our idea was to take a walk up the actual Mount at Mt Maunganui, but after driving around the very busy town (school holidays had started), we could not find a decent car park for our small chariot and decided the Mount was to be conqoered another time. We did manage to grab a delicious lunch at the Bamboo Eatery and Bar so the visit was not quite in vain.

For tonights accommodation we found a little gem south of Tauranga, McLaren Falls Park, just 10 minutes drive from Tauranga.

The pictures speak for themselves.. it was a lovely peaceful stay with beautiful night skies. There are many walks to do in the park and during the summer months it is very popular with all sorts of campers. There is an animal park and also a lovely little cafe, making it a great place to visit with kids too.

Oh yes.. and I beat Mal at Scrabble. Finally!!

[mal] hrmphhhh!
