24 June 20 Porirua to Wellington (and Weta Workshop)

Thanks to Dave and Sharon for their previous evenings hospitality and the morning’s ablusions; god how lovely it was to be showering in something larger than a shoebox.

A drive into town made us realise that town-driving and a 7,5m campervan do not go hand in hand; a wrong turn and here we are driving down through a tunnel made for small vehicles and encountering a large truck coming the other way.. if you’ve ever seen Plains Trains and Automobiles, you’ll imaging the look on Tiina’s face..

It wasnt my face that I was worried about..

Point to note, Vinny had suggested we park down his driveway but a sneaky driveby reinforced that tall men must remember its not as grand up-close as it looks from a distance. We’d have definitely got stuck!

Parking up at Marina Bay “camp ground” was a piece of cake – although sleeping at night wasnt quite as tranquil as an isolated spot by a lake.

Dinner with Vinny and Vanaja was delightful as always – delicious curry and dessert and the addition of a new friend, Patrick – a slight crazy 74 year old Sri Lankan / Malay chap who has the physique of a super-fit 50-year old and the sense of humour of a 25-year old comedian. – Hialrious evening and a reminder to keep in touch with good friends.

Tiina commented that you just need to put 3 indian (brown) men in a room with a drink or two and they all start talking on only slightly-related subjects, all at the same time! I look back on the evenining and have to agree with her πŸ™‚

Prior to dinner, we headed off to Weta Workshops tour – an amazing insight into the world of make-belief from Weta and some of the backroom tips and tricks.
