22 June 20 Waiinu Beach to Manakau (and lessons learned)

Waking up to a stunning morning at Waiinu Beach

A brisk walk down the beach looking for seals – but in vane.. Tiina claimed to see dolphins, Orka, and a mermaid I think – nothing to be seen when I looked.

So onwards now towards Foxton via Wanganui and Bulls

Whanganui – who’da thought it?

undefinedWe arrived in Whanganui and were mind-blasted with the history, architecture and amazing art and café scene.
Everyone we spoke to were keen to tell us a bit (a lot actually) about their wonderful town. And wonderful it is too!
Pictures paint a thousand words so have a shufty at these:

Did we mention the cloudless sky on this mid-winters day?undefined

And of course the major drawcard, the 101 year old Durie Hill Underground Elevator!

Our Knight (lady) in Shining Armour (Swazi Hunting Gear)

so our journey took us to the Swazi Store in Levin (check out their awesome hunting gear at swazi.co.nz).We were greeted by the gorgeously helpful Greer who offered all sorts of info and advice on local places to see and then quite casually offered for us to park up at her WIP new-build or down in sweet little gully by a bubbling stream.

The latter sounded delightful. Off we went just 10Km out of Levin and into the countryside. After checking the paddock for firmness (a bit like .. oh never mind..)

I guided Tiina in through the gate but like a nervous horse at a high fence, she refused; Shaking her head.. “It’s too wet” said Tiina..

 “Nah it’s fine” said Mal….

Shoulda listened to Tiina….
yup!….. Shoulda listened to Tiina….

A quick call to Greer and half an hour later, Mal behind the wheel being towed out of trouble.

Thanks Greer, you’re a star!!

All’s well that ends well as the sun sets on a campervan on the dry and two happy campers
